Juan Garaizabal (b. Madrid, Spain, 1971).
Is variously a storyteller, a conjurer, and a historian. As most gifted artists of his generation of European conceptual artists later become sculptors, he specializes in the transformation of public places into reservoirs of memory and decay. In Garaizabal’s œuvre, large-scale public projects, he channels the collective memory of the urban environment. Garaizabal’s aim: to materialize the spirit of vanished buildings and the heroic value they represent. To make us see what is not there.
